About Church of the Highlands

Church of the Highlands has a rich 122 year old history in the Chattanooga Valley. It is a replant of The Highland Park Baptist Church that was located in downtown Chattanooga and led for forty years by Dr. Lee Roberson and Dr. J.R. Faulkner. Other pastors following were Dr. J. Don Jennings (1985- 1990); Dr. David Bouler (1991 - 2010); Dr. Danny Lovett (Co-pastor2008 - 2011); Dr. Jeremy Roberts (2012 -2017). Highland Park Baptist Church  was home to Tennessee Temple University which trained thousands of young people to be "Distinctively Christian" and intentional in completing the great commission of Jesus Christ. In 2012, Dr. Jeremy Roberts and the congregation sold their campus downtown and moved the location to the church camp, "Camp Joy", in Harrison, TN. The first meeting of Church of the Highlands was on January 20, 2013.

Church of the Highlands is a dynamic church located in Harrison, TN. Our beliefs are based on the Bible and centered on Jesus Christ. Our mission is very simple: to lead people to honor and glorify Jesus Christ, to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and make disciples who make disciples. That means we’re not about a building or some complicated religious system, but about helping people from all backgrounds discover the joy that comes from knowing and serving Jesus Christ.

We invite you to come and check us out this weekend at one of our worship services. We know that going to a new church can be intimidating, so we try to do things in a way where you’ll feel welcome and not like an outsider. When you come, you can participate or just sit back and observe. You’ll discover a warm atmosphere, practical teaching from God's Word and friendly people pursuing God together. We have childcare and classes for all ages, so your family will love it too!

God made a promise in the Bible that if we seek after Him, we’ll find Him. You are a valued part of God’s creation and His deep desire is to be in a relationship with you. His desire is also for you to be a part of a local body of believers. So come and join us as we pursue God together!

Faith

At Church of the Highlands we believe in the inspired, inerrant, Word of God. We are a body of believers who are bound in a faith that is by grace, in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross for our sins. We come together for corporate worship, fellowship and discipleship as followers of Jesus Christ.

Family

At Church of the Highlands we value the family and we believe church should be a place for people of all ages. Every Sunday we provide children's ministries alongside our regular services, which provides a age-appropriate environment for children to encounter and learn about Jesus Christ. You are also welcome to keep your children with you in our services if that is your desire.

Leadership

Pastor Scott McCurdy came to Church of the Highlands in August of 2018. He works with a godly group of dedicated men who serve as Deacons. Together they seek to lead the local body at Church of the Highlands to reach our community, our nation, and our world for Christ. Susan McCurdy directs the Women's and Children's Ministries. Daniel and Darci Francis serve as the Student Ministry leaders. Our nursery is directed by Gail Francis. Our physical plant manager is Scott Montgomery. Betty Stiles and Caryl Hogsett serve in the Church Office.
