Q & A

Wife—Charity & Daughters—Autumn & Lily

What I’m most excited about at Church of the Highlands right now:

Seeing the vision God placed upon our church’s heart transition from theory into reality. Particularly, I’m excited about how many of The Highlands peeps are so amped-up about reaching lost people for Jesus. They’re willing to do whatever it takes. It doesn’t get much better than that!

My educational background is:

Master of Divinity (major: Biblical Languages) at Southwestern Seminary; Bachelor of Science (Major: Religion), MA, DMin (Major: Church Growth) at Liberty University

My favorite character in the Bible is:

My life verse is:

For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to give strong support to those whose hearts are blameless toward Him. (2 Chronicles 16:9a)

If I could ask God one question, it would be:

Did Adam have a belly button?

Most people don't know that I:

Once had an Arnold Palmer (1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade) with Arnold Palmer. Another random fact . . . I was an extra on the Disney World episode of "Step by Step" back in the day.

I'm happiest when I'm:

Chillin' with Charity

On my iPod:

John Legend, Toby Mac, Adele, Fernando Ortega, Barry White, Carrie Underwood (buh bye man card), Chris Tomlin, David Crowder Band, Darius Rucker, Folk Angel, Jim Gaffigan, and LeCrae

The one book (besides the Bible) I'd recommend to anyone is:

The Next Generation Leader by Andy Stanley

My favorite restaurant in the Chattanooga area is:

I have to list more than one. The Public House, Niedlov’s, and Amigo’s are awesome.

I'm most excited about:

Watching my two little girls grow up

The teams I root for most are:

Dallas Cowboys, Liberty University Flames (division 1-AA), Tennessee Volunteers, Dallas Mavericks, Texas Rangers, and Atlanta Braves

My proudest moment is:

When Charity and I got engaged at Cinderella's Castle with a glass slipper

If I could, I'd:

Start a Church of the Highlands satellite campus in Jerusalem

My pet peeve is:

Tardiness. It shows you think your time is more valuable than everyone else's.

My perfect day would be:

Kayaking in Chesapeake Bay with Charity, then playing racquetball with my dad, then fishing in Harrison Bay, then taking Autumn to the park, then skiing in the Rockies, then falling asleep with a mocha in one hand and my wife in the other. (That'd be a long day.)

My favorite childhood memory is:

Holidays in Memphis at my grandparents' house

In my free time, I:

Love to drive up to Pigeon Forge and watch my wife shop while enjoying the mountains.

If I could do it over again, I'd:

Focus less on tertiary theological differences with people and focus more on simply loving people in the name of Jesus.

My favorite TV show is:

LOST.  I re-watch it on Netflix.  It is very introspective.

Three people with whom I would want to have a meal:

Living: Troy Aikman, Billy Graham, and Rick Warren
Dead: Abraham Lincoln, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Paul the Apostle

I have a unique interest in:

The economic world.  Particularly, I love seeing people become debt free, building an emergency fund, and living like no one else so they can eventually live and give like no one else.  Dave Ramsey has made a profound impact on my life.

I would spend $1,000:

Tithe ($100), Take my wife to a fancy restaurant ($100), Invest in a Roth IRA and enjoy the fruits of compound interest in the future ($800).
