Dear Church of the Highlands Family:

Due to growing community concerns about exposure to the COVID -19 Virus we are sending this information to our church family.   We are, of course, monitoring all developments in real-time; and any updates to these recommendations will be published through email, our social media channels, and our website. (

First, let me encourage you that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, of power and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)  Our world, our nation, our cities, and our communities need a church and Christians that are not ruled by fear, but by faith. So, during this season of crisis and fear in the general public we want to be an example of measured, calm, reasonable, knowledge-based, faith-filled responsiveness and preparation.  Remember that our neighbors may be more open to the gospel during this time as they observe our response.

We have put the following precautions into place for our services and campus:

Our greeters will be opening doors for individuals so that you will not need to touch handles. Also these greeters and cleaning staff will be provided with antibacterial wipes to keep door handles cleaned frequently as an added measure of caution.

We will be avoiding our regular "handshakes and hugs" as this virus is passed via contact.  A "friendly hello, nod and chat"  is preferred for a period of time as COVID -19 is not known to be an "airborne" virus.

As we have previously done we will continue to provide pre-packaged communion elements.

We will assist you with checking your child into Preschool and Children's areas by equipping each station with a volunteer, ensuring you will not need to touch any pens/pencils or screens. We will also have antibacterial soap for children to use as they come in and before they leave. Thank you for your patience and flexibility ahead of time.

Along with these steps to prevent the unnecessary spread of germs in a large gathering of people, we also recommend familiarizing yourself with these CDC and World Health Organization recommendations:

WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with antibacterial product.

Please avail yourself of other information on the Center for Disease Control website:

Thank you for your understanding and attention to these matters.

In Christ,

Pastor Scott McCurdy
